Philosophy of Education

The real importance of physical education, is not about me, the teacher, but about the students.  Physical education is important to me, for three reasons. Reason one; students are able to gain self-confidence not just during physical activities but in their daily lives. I plan to help children achieve good self-confidence, as a teacher, by encouraging students and applauding them for good effort. In my gymnasium, students will have respect for one another and encourage each other to do their best. My goal, as a teacher, is to make physical education class a positive learning environment for all my students. I want all my students to be able to believe in themselves, have enough self-confidence to try new activities and interact amongst their peers.

Reason two; physical education class allows students to release energy they have stored. Once the students release some of their energy, they’ll be able to go back to their classroom more focused on learning. Children are expected to sit still and quietly, during a school day. They have to focus on learning and don’t get a chance to get up and move around often. Once students get out some of their energy, they’ll be able to return to class more focused. My goal is to have students more relaxed and physically satisfied by the time they leave the gym.

Reason three; it promotes a good fitness lifestyle to students. Students who accomplish a fitness lifestyle will hopefully carry it into their adult life. Teaching students to make good lifestyle choices is important, whatever the age group may be. I plan to incorporate different physical activities that students can do individually. I want to encourage students to be physically active outside of physical education class. One way to do this is to set S.M.A.R.T. goals for the students to accomplish. This will promote students to practice a specific skill outside of the gymnasium. The goal for younger students will be focused on teaching movement concepts and skill that they will utilize throughout their lifespan. These three reasons make up my philosophy and what I will focus on as a future physical education teacher. I look forward to incorporating these three important concepts into teaching physical education.
